Project provides free CD-ROM of raw campaign material

For the first time, people who want to follow the U.S. presidential campaign without the filter of media coverage can order a new CD-ROM called, "In Their Own Words: A Sourcebook for the 2000 Presidential Election."

Funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts, the free e-book will contain every speech that candidates George W. Bush and Al Gore deliver between July 1 and Oct. 7. Headed by Professor Shanto Iyengar, the nonpartisan project also will include the upcoming debates and the television commercials sponsored by the candidates' respective parties, provided the candidates speak in them. Thirty thousand copies of the CD will be shipped nationwide starting Oct. 15, three weeks before the election.
