Mildred Cho, PhD, senior research scholar and associate director of the Center for Biomedical Ethics, has been appointed associate professor (research) of pediatrics as of May 1. Her research interests include the ethical and social impacts of genetic research, genetic testing and gene therapy and how conflicts of interest affect the conduct of academic biomedical research.
Samuel So, MD, professor of surgery and the Lui Hac Minh Professor in the School of Medicine, received the Community Hero Award in recognition of the Asian Liver Center's hepatitis B and liver cancer prevention education programs. The award was presented April 10 by the World Journal, a Chinese-language newspaper. So also chairs the American Cancer Society's Cancer Site Team, helping to develop procedures for early detection and treatment of breast, prostate, colon and other site-specific cancers.
