"Is News Journalism Under Siege?" was the title of the July 17 panel discussion, sponsored by Aurora Forum and Stanford Publishing Courses, in Kresge Auditorium. A ripped-from-the-headlines debate that arose during the course of the event centered on Time magazine's decision to surrender a reporter's confidential notes and e-mail to the government. From left: Mark Whitaker, editor of Newsweek; Jim Kelly, managing editor of Time; and moderator Richard Stolley, senior editorial adviser to Time.
