Stamp honors Djerassi

The Austrian postal service is issuing a stamp honoring Carl Djerassi, professor emeritus of chemistry, who was born in Vienna in 1923 and forced to leave during the Nazi occupation in 1938. The stamp, to be issued in March, was recently included in an exhibit titled "Austrian Stamps of Jewish Personalities," held at the Jewish Museum of Vienna. "Actually, 'my' stamp was the only one of a living person," Djerassi said, "although I was in superb company, ranging from Freud, Wittgenstein and Johann Strauss to Lise Meitner and the like."
