Retiree medical plan subject of meeting
Faculty and staff are invited to attend a Dec. 6 town hall meeting hosted by Provost John Etchemendy to get an update on possible changes to the university’s retiree medical plan. The meeting also will give current employees a chance to offer input before any final decisions are made.
Under a proposal Etchemendy outlined to the Faculty Senate in late May, the university would no longer cover the cost of the lowest-priced health plan – instead calculating retiree medical benefits based on the number of years of service at the time of retirement. The change would help the university control the soaring cost of providing benefits, Etchemendy said.
Also to be discussed is whether any changes would affect medical coverage for those nearing retirement or those currently retired. The meeting will be in the Tresidder Oak Lounge from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
