Roble Field undergoing comprehensive improvements

These days the lively din of recreational sport on Roble Field has been replaced by the roar of heavy equipment as a multi-phased renewal is under way.

The field, originally planted in the 1930s, is located north of Roble Gymnasium and Dance Studio. It is being completely made over, says David Schinski, director of athletic facilities. The project, which will consist of a new irrigation system, soil amendments, new seeded turf and laser leveling, will be wrapped up in time for Spring Quarter.

Schinski points out that few upgrades have been made to the 5-acre site besides replacement of its irrigation system in the late 1960s. Colony Landscape & Maintenance of Mountain View is the contractor.

During the renovation period intramural activities are being diverted to the 10 acres of playing fields near Sand Hill and Oak roads, Schinski says. SR
