Seniors receive Hoefer Prizes for exceptional writing

Five seniors recently received Hoefer Prizes for exceptional writing. They are John Greenland, chemistry; Charles E. Hudson, Spanish; Andrea McArthur, linguistics; Scott Neuman, economics; and Shanshan Wu, chemical engineering. In addition to a monetary prize, each will receive a book personally selected by the nominating faculty sponsor.

Six faculty members also received Hoefer Fund Partnership Awards for their contributions in promoting writing excellence. The faculty members are Melanie Yelton and Shyamala Malladi, biological sciences; María-Paz Haro, Spanish; John R. Rickford, linguistics; Gregory L. Rosston, economics; and Curtis W. Frank, chemical engineering.

The Hoefer Prizes are given in recognition of excellence in writing and teaching in a writing-intensive course in a major field of study. The awards were established with gifts from the Hoefer Family Foundation and alumnus Kurt Hoefer. SR
