Hagstrom receives John Ericsson Gold Medal for contributions to higher education

Stig B. Hagstrom, professor emeritus of materials science and engineering, received the John Ericsson Gold Medal of the American Association of Swedish Engineers for his contributions to higher education both in the United States and in Sweden. Hagstrom recently returned to Stanford after a six-year term as chancellor of the Swedish university system. He was also made an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA, in Sweden for "exceptionally valuable contributions to the academy" a recognition held by only nine of the academy members. He served as chairman of the academy from 1993 to 1996.
