Facilities Operations holds service ceremony

Steve Cardoza has worked under five Stanford presidents -- and even known most of them personally -- in the 35 years he has been at Stanford.

Now a trades and crafts supervisor with building maintenance in Facilities Operations, Cardoza was the individual with the most seniority among the 45 employees honored last week at the department's Service Recognition and Appreciation Ceremony.

"This is one of the happier times of the year," Chris Christofferson, associate vice provost for facilities, said in his opening remarks. He noted that the 45 employees being honored represented 670 years of cumulative service.

"That's something I feel Stanford needs to acknowledge," he said.

Facilities Operations, one of the larger university departments, has a staff of about 350.
