Campus pathway resurfacing under way

BY LISA TREI

Several campus pathways will be resurfaced during the next few weeks, says Anne Ording from Facilities Operations. The work involves installing redwood headers along pathway edges and adding new asphalt. New concrete curb ramps will be installed where necessary to provide accessible routes. For further questions, call Ording at 723-6260.

Stauffer/Chemistry Complex pathways: Pathways between the Herrin labs, Stauffer buildings, Organic Chemistry and Old Chemistry out to the corner of Roth Way and Lomita Drive will be resurfaced.

Escondido pathways between Campus Drive and Stanford Avenue: The pathways on both sides of Escondido Road will be resurfaced. Only one side of the street will be under construction at a time. Work is expected to start on the north side of Escondido, followed by the south side.

Serra pathways between Galvez Street and Pampas Lane: Work will begin on the south side of Serra Street on the section of pathway between Campus Drive East and Olmsted Road. Work will continue on the pathways on the south side of Serra Street between Galvez Street and Campus Drive East, continuing on the opposite side of Serra Street between Galvez Street and Campus Drive East. Following work on Galvez and Bowdoin Street, the contractor will move to the north side of Serra Street between Campus Drive East and Pampas Lane.

655/657 Serra St. entry plaza: The site and landscape in front of 655 Serra St. will be modified to improve circulation for pedestrians and bicycles and to improve access in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Vehicular through traffic will be eliminated at the front door to create improved bicycle parking and an entry walk that links directly from the building to the sidewalk and the Marguerite shuttle stop. Crossings, ADA-compliant ramps and parking will be located and upgraded to meet current standards for both buildings. This work will be done concurrently with work along the north side of Serra Street.

Bowdoin pathways between Campus Drive and Stanford Avenue: The pathways on the southwest side of Bowdoin Street will be resurfaced. Some curb ramps on the northeast side will be replaced.

Galvez pathways between Campus Drive and El Camino: The pathways on both sides of Galvez will be resurfaced. Only one side of the street will be under construction at a time. Work is expected to start on the east side of Galvez, followed by the west side. SR
