Senate to discuss housing, women faculty and professorial gains at upcoming meeting

The Faculty Senate will meet Thursday to hear several reports on significant issues facing the university.

Provost John Hennessy will present the annual report on professorial gains and losses, after which he and Vice Provost Pat Jones will present a report on the status of women faculty. The latter report shows an increase in the percentage of women faculty at Stanford, from 18.9 percent as of Sept. 1, 1998, to 19.8 percent as of Sept. 1, 1999. During that same period, the report shows, the faculty overall -- including tenure line/tenured, tenure line/not tenured, not tenure line and Medical Center line grew from 1,587 to 1,634.

In addition, Franklin Orr, dean of the School of Earth Sciences, will give a report on behalf of the Provost's Committee on Faculty Housing Policy. The panel has been examining the university's current housing programs for faculty and senior staff in light of the escalating housing costs in the area. SR
