Luenberger to receive Oldenburger medal: 11/98

Luenberger recognized for innovative textbooks

David G. Luenberger, professor of engineering-economic systems and operations research, will receive the Rufus Oldenburger Medal of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for pioneering work relating to modern control theory. In particular, Luenberger is being recognized for the publication of innovative textbooks on automatic control technology and the development of canonical forms, descriptor variable systems and dynamic observers, known as "Luenberger observers." The medal will be presented at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition this month in Anaheim. SR
