Rape Awareness Week events: 5/6/98

Rape Awareness Week features 'Sex and Violence' workshop and 'Take Back the Night' program

Rape Awareness Week continues with a workshop on "Sex and Violence" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in Otero. Program leaders will be Michelle Osborne, director of the Mid-Peninsula YWCA Rape Crisis Center; Christina Zieleniewicz, advisor with the Coalition Against Sexual Assault; and social worker Susannah MacKaye. The workshop is free and open to the community.

The week will close with a "Take Back the Night" program on Thursday, May 7, at White Plaza. A free concert by "the girl & i" will kick off the event at 7 p.m. Marian Hammond and Esther Park, co-coordinators of the Coalition Against Sexual Assault, will speak at 8 p.m., and survivors of sexual assault will offer testimonials from 8:15 to 9:45 p.m. A women's march to demand the right to walk alone at night will begin at 9:45 p.m.; a men's discussion group will run concurrently.
