Description

Deborah M. Gordon’s research is on the ecology and evolution of collective behavior and decentralized organizations. She studies how ant colony organization is regulated using networks of local interactions and investigates analogies with engineered information systems, brains and other complex systems without central control. The lab investigates colony behavior of harvester ants in the Arizona desert, the spread of the invasive Argentine ant in northern California, and ant-plant mutualisms in the tropical forest of Mexico and Central America.
