Vaden Health Center releases new editions of Student Health Matters

The publications provide detailed information for students about caring for their health while at Stanford.

Vaden Health Center has released the 2018-2019 editions of Student Health Matters, the annual guides to students about how to care for their health while at Stanford. With separate editions for incoming and returning students, the guides describe the university’s entrance health requirements; all policies and deadlines regarding Cardinal Care, the university health insurance requirement; and services available at Vaden to all registered students at Stanford.

For students entering Stanford for the first time in 2018-2019, highlights of this year’s New Student edition include:

  • What’s new for the upcoming academic year
  • Understanding Vaden Health Center’s role in caring for students
  • Learning how to comply with the university’s entrance Health Requirements
  • Guidance for decisions that need to be made about health insurance and pertinent deadlines for the 2018-2019 school year
  • Information on the eligibility requirements for the Dependent Health insurance plan

For students returning to Stanford in 2018-2019, highlights of this year’s Returning Student edition include:

  • What’s new for the upcoming academic year
  • Understanding Vaden Health Center’s role in caring for students
  • Guidance for decisions that need to be made about health insurance and pertinent deadlines for the 2018-2019 school year
  • Information on the eligibility requirements for the Dependent Health insurance plan
  • Information on Cardinal Care enrollment when you leave Stanford University

When reviewing the appropriate brochure, students are asked to keep several items in mind:

  • Deadlines for new students to submit the Health Requirement forms are June 30 for incoming frosh and July 31 for incoming graduate or transfer students.
  • All students are automatically enrolled in Cardinal Care at the start of their entry quarter each year. For students entering Stanford in Autumn Quarter, the plan year begins Sept. 1, 2018, and students wishing to waive Cardinal Care for 2018-2019 must do so by the waiver deadline of Sept. 15, 2018.
  • Cardinal Care is an annual plan that begins Sept. 1 and ends on Aug. 31 of the next year – students’ health insurance decisions made by the waiver deadline are binding for that year.
  • For students who choose to remain enrolled in Cardinal Care, note that coverage continues through leaves of absence.
  • Students who choose to remain enrolled in Cardinal Care and are conferred their degrees at the end of either Autumn or Winter Quarter can petition for early cancellation by Dec. 15 (Autumn) or April 15 (Winter).

Student Health Matters is produced by Vaden Health Center, a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic serving registered Stanford students.
