Fire quelled on Stanford land near Felt Lake

State and local firefighters battled a one- to two-acre grass fire on Stanford land southwest of Felt Lake on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The fire was contained by Tuesday afternoon, although firefighters were still tending to hot spots among eucalyptus trees.

Responding were firefighters from Cal Fire, Palo Alto, Woodside and Santa Clara County.

According to the Palo Alto Fire Department, the fire was apparently the result of a lightning strike during Monday’s thunder and lightning storm that eventually ignited grass in the area.

There was no structural damage and no injuries reported.

Lightening was also suspected as the cause of the Skeggs Fire near Skyline Road and Skeggs Point, three miles west of Woodside. The 50-acre fire, which started on Sept. 11, was visible from campus.
