October is career month at Career Planning and Placement Center

STANFORD -- Several major events highlight "career month" activities at the Career Planning and Placement Center (CPPC) during the month of October.

The CPPC's annual Career Fair on Friday, Oct. 13, in White Plaza is expected to draw 190 employers representing both public and private sectors, with opportunities in technical, liberal arts and non-profit/education fields.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Organizers say it is an excellent opportunity to speak informally with employers and obtain information about full-time employment, summer jobs and internships.

A special pre-career-fair evening reception, co- sponsored by the ethnic centers and the Disability Resource Center, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Oak Lounge at Tresidder Union.

To assist students with job searches, a number of special workshops will be held in October, including: "Interviewing Strategies" at 2:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in the Cypress Room at Tresidder; and "Beyond Recruiting: Successful Job Search Strategies," at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in the CPPC Conference Room.

For graduate students, the "Academic Job Search Series" begins at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in the CPPC Conference Room.

"Breaking Into Public Service," a panel presentation by recent alumni working in non-profit and government jobs, will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the CPPC Conference Room.

International students can attend "Job Search Strategies for International Students" at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Bechtel International Center Assembly Room.

For details on any of these events, visit the CPPC or call 725-1789.
