Campus Drive East work scheduled for this summer

Roadway upgrading work is scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 21 on, and adjacent to, a section of Campus Drive East, and continue through mid- to late September. Officials say the project should not create any major traffic delays.

Tom Zigterman, project manager with the Utilities Division of Facilities Operations, said the major component of the project involves widening Campus Drive East between Constanzo Street and Alvarado Row to accommodate new bicycle lanes.

The widening will be done on the edge of Campus Drive that is opposite the campus center.

In addition to widening the road and adding bicycle lanes, design improvements will be made to the intersections of Campus Drive East and Alvarado Row, and Mayfield Avenue and Salvatierra Walk. The improvements are intended to regulate bicycle traffic flow and make crossing Campus Drive safer for pedestrians and people in wheelchairs.

Salvatierra Walk will be permanently closed to vehicles on both sides of Campus Drive when the work is completed.

Other work includes resurfacing the parking lot off Campus Drive between Salvatierra and Lane B, adding sidewalks and lighting along the east side of Campus Drive and replacing damaged sidewalks on sections of Alvarado Row and Santa Ynez Street in the area.

The Campus Drive East improvements are funded through the Stanford Infrastructure Program. For more information, contact Zigterman at 723-0460 (or send electronic mail to TOMZ@BONAIR).
