Wacky walk will proceed

STANFORD -- Campus administrators last week restored the "wacky walk" of graduating seniors after they were bombarded with student protests that included a brief speech by a nude student and a barrage of e- mail complaints.

The details of the informal procession were finalized at a meeting on Monday, May 15, between Senior Class President Kevin Harrington and Lois Wagner, director of Stanford Events.

Seniors will begin the commencement procession at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 18, followed by advanced degree candidates at 9:45 a.m. and faculty at10 a.m. The formal graduation ceremonies will start at 10:15 a.m.

Administrators initially scrapped the walk in an effort to shorten the ceremony. The change will push back the ceremony by 15 minutes.

Since an announcement sent to parents states that the commencement activities will begin at 10 a.m., students are encouraged to notify parents and other guests of the change.
