Nominations sought for Gores, Dinkelspiel, Cuthbertson awards

STANFORD -- Nominations are being accepted through Friday, April 14, for the 1995 Gores, Dinkelspiel and Cuthbertson awards for distinctive and exceptional contributions to the university.

The awards will be presented by the president at the commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 18.

The Gores Awards recognize excellence of teaching at any level and in any form - lecturing, tutoring, advising and discussion leading. Awards ordinarily are made each year to a senior faculty member or a senior lecturer, a junior faculty member or member of the teaching staff, and a student teaching assistant.

Two Dinkelspiel Awards will be given to faculty or staff - one with 10 or more years of service and one with fewer than 10 years of service - for their distinctive and exceptional contributions to undergraduate education or to the quality of student life at Stanford. Two awards also will be given to graduating seniors in the class of 1995, one man and one woman, who have combined praiseworthy academic achievement with significant contributions to undergraduate student life.

The Cuthbertson Award is open to all members of the community and honors the quality of the contribution made to Stanford and the achievement of its goals in their broadest sense. Such contributions might be, for example, unusually distinguished service to the university, uncommon ingenuity in meeting university objectives, or exceptional intelligence, diligence and sensitivity in discharging responsibilities.

Nominations should be sent to the Subcommittee on University and Departmental Honors, c/o Registrar's Office, Old Union, mail code 3005.
