Memorial service set for Thomas Swain Barclay

STANFORD -- A memorial service honoring political scientist Thomas Swain Barclay will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Stanford Memorial Church.

Barclay, who joined the Stanford faculty in 1927 and retired 30 years later, died Dec. 21, 1993, at the age of 101. During his long Stanford career, he taught political science to five future U.S. senators.

The Rev. Ernle Young and the Rev. Mary Lou Taylor, of St. Mary's Church in Menlo Park, will officiate at the service. An informal reception will follow at the Hatfield Courtyard at the Herbert Hoover Memorial Building.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Thomas S. Barclay Faculty Fund for Stanford-in-Washington, 301 Encina Hall, Stanford, CA 94305-6076.
