Dean to take sabbatical from Memorial Church duties

STANFORD -- Dean of the Chapel Robert Gregg began a six-month sabbatical Jan. 1 from his duties at Stanford Memorial Church.

Gregg will be engaged in reading and discussions concerning inter-religious dialogue, "in anticipation of the creation of a multi-faith center at Stanford," he said.

Later, in May and June, he will travel to Europe in connection with his research on the history of early Christianity.

During his absence, Memorial Church Associate Dean Diana Akiyama will serve as acting dean. "The full range of Memorial Church activities and services to the community will continue under her leadership," Gregg said, "and with some additional Sunday morning help from Dr. George Fitzgerald, director of chaplaincy service at Stanford University Hospital."
