Flu shots offered at Cowell through December

STANFORD -- Influenza immunizations are being offered again this year at the Cowell Student Health Center, located at 606 Campus Drive East. The flu shots are available from 9 to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday through Dec. 7.

The shots are free for university employees, including faculty, staff, emeritus faculty and retired staff, medical school and research faculty and staff, but not Stanford University Hospital employees. Students, domestic partners and spouses will be charged $18 per immunization.

The U.S. Public Health Service Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends annual flu shots for certain high-risk individuals. Those include the elderly and people of any age who have such conditions as heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, diabetes, anemia or conditions that compromise the body's immune system.

Pregnant women must bring a note from their doctor authorizing immunization. People who have colds or other infections should wait until they are well to receive a shot, and people who are allergic to eggs cannot be immunized.

For additional information, call the Cowell Student Health Center at 725-1380.
