Fairbank memorial run set for Sunday, Feb. 23

STANFORD -- The third annual Bill Fairbank Memorial Run, sponsored by the Physics Department, is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23.

The route will be the 4.1-mile Campus Drive loop, beginning and ending at Angell Field, located between Campus Drive and Stanford Stadium. Maps will be provided at the start.

As in the previous two runs, the winner will be the runner or walker whose actual time is fractionally closest to his or her predicted time. The event is open without charge to all interested persons. Volunteers to serve as timers are asked to contact Bob Wagoner at 723-4561. Refreshments will be provided.

The official results will include the names of all finishers, the predicted and actual times for each, and the percent difference. All finishers will receive a certificate indicating their times.

An avid runner, Fairbank was a professor of physics at Stanford from 1959 until his death in 1989.

The organizers of the event are Wagoner and Jane Fairbank, Bill Fairbank's widow. Jane Fairbank will serve as official starter.
