International directory assistance changes In late December 1991, without prior notification, AT&T began to charge callers $1.50 for international directory assistance. Since AT&T operators cannot bill these charges to individual Stanford telephone lines, they are not providing such assistance to Stanford callers. Stanford callers can get international directory assistance from the Sprint operator by dialing "200" from a Stanford telephone. Once connected to a Sprint operator, callers should ask for "Sprint international directory assistance." (Sprint does not currently charge for this service.) If you have any difficulty with this procedure, please dial "0" for a Stanford operator and explain the problem. According to Jim Knox of Communication Services, the Stanford unit, as well as many large businesses and other universities, is addressing this problem with AT&T. "We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this unexpected change," Knox said. For further information, call Communication Services at 5-HELP.
