Olkin awarded statistical association medal Ingram Olkin, Stanford professor of statistics and education, was awarded the Samuel S. Wilks Memorial Medal by the American Statistical Association. Olkin is internationally known for his research in statistics where multiple variables or units of unequal value must be accounted for. He was honored at the group's 151st annual meeting last August. In its citation, the association honors Olkin for his major contributions to multivariate analysis; for his application of statistics to education, the social sciences, psychology, medicine and engineering; for the creation of quality statistical journals; for his active participation in advancement of statistics at the national level; for development of statistical training and for "innovative efforts as a teacher, editor, author and consultant."
