Fire scorches 10 acres of foothills

STANFORD -- A small brush fire Saturday, Aug. 17, blackened 12 acres of Stanford University land near the large radio-telescope dish in the foothills, fire officials said.

The Saturday afternoon fire was extinguished by members of the Palo Alto and Los Altos fire departments. One firefighter was treated for a scratched cornea.

A spokesman for the Palo Alto Fire Department said a faulty power line was believed to have started the fire, which was reported at 12:48 p.m. and controlled by 1:48 p.m. No structures were threatened, and damage was limited to burned grass.
