Statement from Stanford University regarding Stanford Financial Group

Stanford University is aware of media reports that the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a civil action in federal court today against Robert Allen Stanford and three of his companies, including Stanford Financial Group. Stanford Financial Group and other companies associated with Robert Allen Stanford are in no way affiliated with or related to Stanford University. In October 2008, Stanford University filed a lawsuit against Stanford Financial Group for trademark infringement, trade dress infringement and related claims. The relief sought by Stanford University in its lawsuit against Stanford Financial Group includes measures that Stanford believes will prevent the type of confusion and reputational injury to Stanford University that is caused by today's SEC charges.
