UPDATE: Police identify body of missing Stanford graduate student

The body of Stanford graduate student Mengyao "May" Zhou, who has been missing since Saturday, was found today in the trunk of her car, according to Santa Rosa police.

There were no early indications of foul play, and items in the trunk indicate Zhou may have committed suicide, police said. A final determination will not be available until the investigation has been completed by all the agencies involved, including the Sonoma County Coroner's Office.

Zhou's car had been found in a parking lot of Santa Rosa Junior College.

"The Stanford community is deeply saddened to learn of May's death," said Greg Boardman, vice provost for student affairs. "We continue to offer our full support and prayers to the Zhou family. We would appreciate respect for the privacy of the family as well as members of the Stanford community."

Students who wish to receive counseling may call Stanford Counseling and Psychological Services at 723-3785. Faculty and staff who wish to obtain counseling may contact the Stanford Help Center at 723-4577. Members of the Stanford community may also contact the Office for Religious Life at 723-1762.
