Hamid R. Moghadam, a Stanford University alumnus who heads a global real-estate development and operating company, has been elected to the university's Board of Trustees. His five-year term began Dec. 11.
Moghadam earned an MBA from Stanford in 1980 before co-founding the San Francisco-based AMB Property Corp. in 1983. He is chairman and chief executive officer of the company, which now has approximately 125 million square feet of industrial property in 11 countries. He also holds bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
"Hamid and I serve on the board of the Stanford Management Company, where he's a particularly effective director," said Burt McMurtry, chair of the Board of Trustees. "I look forward to his bringing the same commitment, insight and judgment to the Board of Trustees. He's also extremely knowledgeable about real estate matters, and Stanford has lots of involvement in that area."
In addition to his service on the board of the Stanford Management Company, Moghadam sits on the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council and its Campaign Steering Committee. In 2003, he established the university's Hamid and Christina Moghadam Program in Iranian Studies and co-founded the Iran Democracy Project at the Hoover Institution.
He is the former chairman of National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and of the Real Estate Investment Trust Political Action Committee. He was a founding member of the Real Estate Roundtable.
He also is a trustee of the California Academy of Sciences and of the Town School for Boys, a private K-8 school in San Francisco.
