Stanford University statement on one-day strike

The university carried out its business today without any major interruptions. Some bargaining unit workers at the university crossed picket lines.

All dining halls remained open. Seventy-five temporary workers were hired for the day to maintain service in the dining halls and, in addition, volunteers from the Dean of Student Affairs' Office, the President's Office, Human Resources and dining management all pitched in.

Overall, protesters were orderly and did not cause any major interruptions or delays to normal business.

We were heartened that a number of union employees who work in dining came in on their day off Sunday to prepare food for students in advance of their absence on Monday. We believe that type of contribution is representative of our staff's dedication to the students they serve, and we deeply appreciate their level of commitment.

The parties have agreed to continue negotiations Tuesday and we continue to be committed to resolving these issues at the bargaining table.
