MEDIA ADVISORY: Mark Whitaker cancels Stanford appearance; May 17 symposium also canceled; panel tonight will examine credibility in the news media

 

Mark Whitaker, editor of Newsweek magazine, will not appear at Stanford to deliver the 17th annual John S. Knight Lecture that had been scheduled for this evening. In its place, a panel discussion is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight, May 16, in the Hewlett Teaching Center Lecture Hall.

 

James Bettinger, director of the Knight Fellowships program, will moderate a discussion on credibility in the news media featuring Katrina Heron, an author and former editor of Wired magazine; Tim Porter, who writes the journalism blog First Draft; and Sandra Mims Rowe, editor of the Portland Oregonian.

 

In addition, the symposium that had been scheduled for noon Tuesday, May 17, in the Bechtel Conference Center has been canceled.
