Stanford to hold noontime vigil today for tsunami victims
A vigil will be held today at noon in Stanford's Memorial Church to remember and pray for victims of the Dec. 26 tsunami. The vigil is being held for all members of the university community who have been affected by the tragedy.
Limited seating will be reserved for news reporters in the choir loft at the rear of the church. No cameras, still or video, will be permitted inside.
The speakers will be the Rev. William "Scotty" McLennan, dean for religious life; the Rev. Joanne Sanders; and Rabbi Patricia Karlin-Neumann. Lorri Elder, a student in the Graduate School of Business, will speak on behalf of her classmate James Hsu.
Hsu, a second-year MBA student in the Graduate School of Business, was vacationing on the resort island of Koh Phi Phi with four other students following a school-study trip in Southeast Asia when the tsunami hit. Hsu has not been found.
