Historic Red Barn opens doors to public for "Stanford Barn Day—The Legacy Continues"

After almost a year of renovations, the Stanford Red Barn Equestrian Center will show itself off to the public on Saturday, Oct. 8, for "Stanford Barn Day—The Legacy Continues," an event that is modeled after the Red Barn Day celebrations traditionally held every summer.

Nearly all of the 70 horses that will be housed in the gleaming new complex returned over the past weekend to the facility, and most took an immediate liking to the larger and better-ventilated stalls, said Vanessa Bartsch, general manager of the barn.

Two events will be held on Saturday to celebrate the re-opening of the facility. The day program begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. and costs $10 for general admission; it is $5 for students and free for children under 5. The day session is modeled after the Red Barn festival and will include riding demonstrations, equine vendors, children's activities, a silent auction and tours of the complex. Organizers also managed to secure a visit from a champion trotting horse that will be on display.

An evening program also is open to the public but requires advance purchase of tickets. The program will begin with cocktails and a mini-prix and will be followed by a dinner and live auction. The event begins at 5 p.m. and costs $75 per ticket or $750 for a table of 10 seats. All proceeds from the event will benefit the university's equestrian athletics program.
