Stanford to host symposium on new techniques in biomedical imaging March 25-26

Imagine creating molecules that spy on tumors while they're growing, or designing technology that can monitor the effects of drug addiction on the brain of a living patient. These and other cutting-edge research efforts are among the topics that will be discussed at the "Watching Life" symposium on Friday, March 25, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, March 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fairchild Auditorium, 291 Campus Drive West, on the Stanford campus. The event is sponsored by the Stanford Bio-X Program and is free and open to the public.

Ten leading scientists in the field of biomedical imaging will describe some of their remarkable findings during the two-day symposium. Among the presenters are Professor Jeff Lichtman of Harvard University, who will discuss monitoring synapses in fluorescent mice, and Joanna Fowler of Brookhaven National Laboratory, who will describe imaging addiction in the human brain. Other topics include building molecules to spy on cells and tumors, observing the development of living vertebrate embryos and ethical considerations in biomedical imaging.
