ADVISORY: Media registration required for Commencement

Stanford's 114th Commencement begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 12, at Stanford Stadium with the student processional known as the Wacky Walk. The formal ceremony follows at 10 a.m., with a keynote address by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and CEO of Pixar Animation Studios. The program concludes at noon.

The undergraduate Class of 2005 comprises 1,821 students. As of today, the university expects to grant 1,876 bachelor's degrees, 2,065 master's degrees and 908 doctoral degrees at Sunday's Commencement. (These numbers are subject to change.)

REGISTRATION: All media representatives who are on staff at established news organizations must register with the News Service by 3 p.m. Friday, June 10. Please provide full name, title, news organization, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address to Cynthia Lindsey by phone at (650) 723-2558, fax at (650) 725-0247 or e-mail at clindsey@stanford.edu.

FREELANCERS: Freelance reporters and photographers should fax or e-mail a letter from the news organization for which they will be working along with the information listed above. They will be required to bring a valid photo ID to the News Service at 425 Santa Teresa Street on Thursday, June 9, or Friday, June 10, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to secure a temporary press credential.

Please note that a valid press credential either from Stanford News Service or an established news organization will be required to park in or enter designated press areas.

PARKING: Media parking will be in Lot 2, which can be accessed from El Camino Real. Heading south on El Camino, make a right at Sam McDonald Mall just south of Galvez Street. A media check-in table will be located near Gate 1. Access to the stadium floor will close at 8:30 a.m. Latecomers will be escorted in at the News Service's discretion.

A mult box will be available for broadcasters.

All bags will be subject to search.

In addition to the main ceremony, the other Commencement activities that are open to the press* are listed below. Media access to activities not included in this advisory is at the discretion of event organizers.

Saturday, June 11:

9:30 a.m.

Baccalaureate Celebration, Inner Quadrangle

Speaker: Sylvia Boorstein, a co-founding teacher of Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, Calif., and a senior teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Mass.

10:30 a.m.

Dedication of Senior Class Plaque, Inner Quadrangle

11:30 a.m.

Class Day Luncheon for seniors and their families, Angell Field

Speaker: Stanford history Professor David Kennedy
