Psychology expert to discuss Abu Ghraib, war on terror
Philip Zimbardo, professor emeritus of psychology, will give a public lecture, "The Psychology of 'Evil' and the Politics of Fear," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in Kresge Auditorium. In his talk, Zimbardo will present a social psychological analysis of the abuses committed by American soldiers against prisoners in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison. He also will discuss the psychological dimensions of the current war on terrorism. A former president of the American Psychological Association, Zimbardo conducted the 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment, which explored power dynamics and individual behavior.
