PRESS ADVISORY

A sculpture of a giant banana peel -- more than 13 feet tall by 8 feet wide -- is scheduled to be craned into a first-floor, open-air courtyard in the Cantor Center for Visual Arts about 8 a.m. Thursday. Members of the press are invited to attend the installation.

Designed by world-renowned pop-art sculptors Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, Floating Peel (2002) is on loan to Stanford for two years from the Alturas Foundation.

A crane will lift the work, which will remain inside a crate while airborne, as high as 60 feet to clear the center's walls.
