Stanford student arrested on suspicion of rape

Officers with the Stanford University Department of Public Safety arrested a third-year Stanford undergraduate Thursday, Oct. 24, on suspicion of rape.

Nathan Charles Peterson, 20, was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of rape and penetration by a foreign object. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. The female student is an 18-year-old Stanford freshman, police said

The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct.19, in a dormitory room on the Stanford campus, police said. The two students allegedly first met about one week prior to the incident.
