Traffic Advisory: Motorists can expect traffic delays in downtown Palo Alto on Sunday

Motorists can expect traffic congestion and delays in downtown Palo Alto on Sunday, June 17 due to Stanford Commencement and Palo Alto's World Music Day music festival.

Traffic may be heavy along University Avenue and adjacent streets in downtown Palo Alto for much of Sunday, June 17.  Stanford's 121st Commencement ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m., will bring an estimated 10,000 people to campus.  In addition, Palo Alto's World Music Day music festival will close several streets in downtown Palo Alto beginning at 11 a.m. and bring as many as 25,000 additional people to the area.

University Avenue will be closed to traffic between High and Webster streets from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Hamilton Avenue will be closed between Bryant and Ramona streets.  Commencement attendees leaving campus headed for U.S. Highway 101 will be funneled onto Lytton Avenue and other side streets to avoid the music festival street closures.  Motorists may wish to use Embarcadero Road or Oregon Expressway as alternate routes.
