Faculty Senate to meet Thursday

Professor Emeritus David Abernethy, political science, will present the report of the Emeriti Council. President John Hennessy will discuss challenges in higher education.

 

The Faculty Senate will convene Thursday for the fourth – and last – meeting of spring quarter.

David Abernethy, professor emeritus of political science, will present the annual report of the Emeriti Council.

President John Hennessy will talk about challenges in higher education.

The senate will meet at 3:15 p.m. in Room 180 of the Law School. Discussion is limited to members of the senate, but members of the Stanford community may request to attend the meeting by contacting Assistant Academic Secretary Trish Del Pozzo at 723-4992 or delpozzo@stanford.edu.

Following adjournment, President Hennessy will host a reception for the 42nd (current) Senate, new members of the 43rd Senate, the chairs of the committees of the Academic Council, the Emeriti Council and the university's Board of Trustees. The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Faculty Club.

David Spiegel, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, will serve as chair of the 43rd Senate, which will convene next fall, and its steering committee. David Palumbo-Liu, a professor of comparative literature, will serve as vice chair. The other five members of the steering committee are Professors Martha Cyert, biology; Hank Greely, law; Brad Osgood, electrical engineering; Ramón Saldívar, English and comparative literature; and Mark Zoback, geophysics.
