Parking permits for the 2009-10 academic year expire Aug. 31. Permits valid for the new school year must be displayed beginning Wednesday, Sept. 1. There will be no formal grace period.

Permits may be ordered from Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS). Online ordering is recommended for convenience and to avoid lines that often form during the renewal period. P&TS urges commuters to consider sustainable modes of transportation before purchasing a parking permit.

Permit rates remained unchanged over the past two years. This year, however, long-term and short-term parking permit prices are increasing about 3 percent. The cost of a yearlong "A" permit is $747. The cost of a yearlong "C" permit is $291. One-day parking scratchers remain unchanged at $11 for an "A" and $4.50 for a "C."

The locations of "A" and "C" parking lots can be found on Stanford's Parking and Circulation Map.

Registration for the Commute Club, an alternative transportation program, is now open.

Commute Club members are eligible to receive up to $282 in "Clean Air Cash" in 2010-11. Those who forgo purchasing a short term, annual or academic year parking permit and instead apply for Commute Club membership not only save on parking fees but also receive up to $282 in Clean Air Cash or credit toward carpool costs. Membership in the Commute Club is free, must be renewed annually and includes these incentives:

  • Up to $96 per year in Zipcar credit and up to 12 free hourly car-rental vouchers for the campus Enterprise location.
  • Automatic enrollment in Stanford's Emergency Ride Home program.
  • Subsidy of $200 per month for each registered Stanford vanpool.
  • One free parking scratcher per month for each registered carpool member.
  • Purchase of up to eight daily parking scratchers per month.
  • Preferential reserved parking spaces for carpools and vanpools.

Options for obtaining permits include delivery by mail to a home address or will-call pickup at P&TS at 340 Bonair Siding. Permits may be purchased at the office between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
