Medical students' research shown at May 7 symposium
Medical research projects ranging in topics from "Flexor tendon tissue engineering" to "The effect of the media on a patient's confidence in the health-care system" will be showcased at the 26th annual Stanford Medical Student Research Symposium on May 7 in the Stanford Hospital atrium. The event is free and open to the public.
Fifty-five MD and MD/PhD students will present their 63 projects carried out in the laboratory and beyond. Some involved research in the community, others required work abroad.
The physicians-in-training will be at their posters for informal discussions from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The projects focus on contemporary health issues that affect both individuals and communities. The $1,000 in award money from medical alumni will be distributed among several of the most outstanding student projects.
On June 3, the Department of Medicine Grand Rounds will feature oral student presentations from two of the outstanding student projects. It starts at 8 a.m. with a 50-minute plenary session at Braun Auditorium in the Mudd Chemistry Building.
