Faculty Senate to meet Thursday

The Faculty Senate will convene Thursday for the third meeting of the spring quarter.

The senate will hear a presentation by Provost John Etchemendy on the university's budget plan for fiscal year 2009-10, which begins Sept. 1.

The senate will meet at 3:15 p.m. in Room 180 of the Law School. Discussion is limited to members of the senate, but members of the Stanford community may request to attend the meeting by contacting the Academic Secretary's Office at 723-4992 or Trish Del Pozzo at delpozzo@stanford.edu.

The senate will adjourn at 4:30 p.m. for an administrative session of the Steering Committee in Room 280B on the second floor of the Law School. All members of the senate are invited to attend.

In the administrative session, the Committee for the Review of Undergraduate Majors will present five recommendations to grant, extend or renew degree-granting authority in several programs and majors, including a recommendation to approve a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors and a minor in East Asian studies in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. The committee is also recommending that Stanford create an Individually Designed Honors Program in the Humanities.
