No July 3 celebration at Frost Amphitheater

Stanford will not hold its traditional "pre-Independence Day celebration" on July 3 because of ongoing construction around Frost Amphitheater, which makes it unsafe to launch fireworks. The event, held annually at the amphitheater, usually includes a jazz festival sponsored by Lively Arts as well as a fireworks display.

For 2008, Lively Arts held the concert without the fireworks. However, ticket sales and the "overall flavor of the event" suffered without the fireworks, according to Lively Arts artistic and executive director Jenny Bilfield. This year, both have been suspended.

No July 3 events have been scheduled for 2010.
