Alumni group seeks nominations for service awards

Stanford Associates, an honorary association of alumni volunteers, is asking faculty and staff to nominate alumni for three of the group's annual service awards.

The group, which is part of the Stanford Alumni Association, asks nominators to rank candidates on dependability, enthusiasm, leadership, thoroughness and initiative, and explain why they think a candidate ranks "among the top 5 percent of Stanford volunteers with whom you've worked."

Nomination forms, which are due Friday, Aug. 28, can be found on the Stanford Associates Volunteer Service Awards website.

Completed forms should be submitted via email to Ana Moreno, a senior manager in Alumni Volunteer Relations, at morenoa@stanford.edu.

Following are eligibility requirements for each of the three award categories:

Award of Merit: Any alumnus is eligible for this award, which recognizes a significant one-time achievement as a volunteer during the past year.

Stanford Associates Membership: Alumni volunteers with five years of significant leadership service or 10 years of outstanding service are eligible for this award, which confers lifetime membership in Stanford Associates.

Governors' Award: Current members of Stanford Associates are eligible for this award, which honors continued demonstration of extraordinary volunteer service.

In recent years, one recipient served as president of the Graduate School of Business Alumni Consulting Team, which offers pro bono help to nonprofit groups. Another created a website for the Stanford Center for the Study of Poverty and Inequality. One past recipient served as co-chair of the Treasure Market, an annual fundraiser for the Cantor Arts Center. Others have worked as "ambassadors" for the Office of Undergraduate Admission in their hometowns.

The organization's Board of Governors will choose the winners in late October. The award ceremony will be held April 10, 2010.
