Brendan Visser, MD, has been appointed assistant professor of surgery at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, as of March 1. His research is focused on the multidisciplinary treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma and minimally invasive pancreatic and liver surgery.
Deidre Lyell, MD; Usha Chitkara, MD; Maurice Druzin, MD; and Yasser El-Sayed, MD have been honored by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology with its 2008 Roy M. Pitkin Award for their research paper "Maintenance nifedipine tocolysis compared with placebo: A randomized controlled trial." The study found that a drug commonly prescribed for preventing preterm labor worked no better than placebo in a group of 68 pregnant women. The award recognizes the top four papers published each year in Obstetrics & Gynecology. The doctors are members of the high-risk obstetrics team at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
Megan Albertelli, DVM, PhD, has been appointed assistant professor of comparative medicine at the Veterinary Service Center, as of March 1. Her interests include clinical care of laboratory animal species, cancer genetics and development of mouse models of human cancer.
