Senate convenes Thursday

The Faculty Senate will convene Thursday for the first meeting of the spring quarter.

The senate will hear a report from Patricia Gumport, vice provost for graduate education.

The senate also will hear a presentation from Patricia Jones, vice provost for faculty development and diversity, on three annual reports: Professorial Gains, Losses and Composition; Status of Women Faculty; and Factors Affecting Faculty Recruitment and Retention.

The senate meeting is scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m. in Room 180 of the Law School.

Discussion is limited to members of the senate, but members of the Stanford community may request to attend the meeting by contacting Trish Del Pozzo, assistant academic secretary, at 723-4992 or delpozzo@stanford.edu.

Prior to the meeting, the steering committee will meet in administrative session to hear recommendations to renew degree-nominating authority for the Interdisciplinary Program in Public Policy for the Bachelor of Arts degree, honors and minor; to approve degree-nominating authority for the Interdisciplinary Program in Public Policy for a new coterminal Master of Arts degree; to approve an undergraduate minor in the School of Education; to institute "no grade reported" as an administrative notation when instructors do not enter a grade by the grading deadline; and to approve changes in the Law School's grading system.

The administrative session will take place from 2:15 to 3 p.m. in Room 180 of the Law School. All members of the senate are welcome to attend the session.
