Med school employee hit by vehicle on Welch Road

Palo Alto police are investigating an injury accident involving Borka Pavlovic, recently named director of finance and grants administration at Stanford's Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine.

Pavlovic was struck by a vehicle as she crossed Welch Road at about 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, according to Palo Alto police spokesperson Dan Ryan. As of 4 p.m. on Sept. 30, she was listed in critical condition at Stanford Hospital.

The institute's administrative offices are located at 800 Welch Road, and Ryan said colleagues in Pavlovic's office told police investigators she was on her way to the Marguerite shuttle stop across the street from the building. Ryan added that Pavlovic apparently was crossing the street when she was struck by a vehicle driving around the curve at that point in the road.

"It's a very dangerous place," Michele King, program manager at the Institute for Immunity, Transplation and Infection and whose office is in the same building, said about the section of Welch Road outside the building, where there is no crosswalk.
