Eyesight project wins award to fund service

Second-year medical student Jennifer Staple has won the Golden BRICK Award for her commitment to youth service as founder, president and CEO of Unite For Sight.

The award, presented April 10 on a televised broadcast in New York that aired on the CW network, provides a $25,000 donation to Unite For Sight, a nonprofit organization that works worldwide to improve eye care and eliminate preventable blindness. Staple founded the organization at Yale University in September 2000, and the organization has since provided eye care to more than 400,000 people worldwide.

A photograph of Staple and Unite For Sight will also be featured on bags of Doritos starting in May. The Doritos brand announced that it will recognize BRICK award winners and finalists by sharing their stories with millions on their bags of tortilla chips.
